Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY

CELEBRANT: Dear sisters and brothers, let us now pray God’s blessings upon our church family, our personal families, and on all the human family.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For the family that is God’s Church: may we, God’s beloved, rejoice in unity, trust, and holiness, and always be to others a sign of hospitality and welcome, we pray...

2.  For the human family: may we all learn to live, as God’s children, in peace, justice, and love, free from war and the threat of war, we pray...

3.  For the family that is these United States: may citizens of every race, creed, and color commit themselves to speaking to and acting towards one another, in all the days of the New Year almost upon us, with kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, we pray...

4. For our government leaders: may they promote programs that support a strong family life, and speak words to our national family that unite rather than divide, we pray...

5.  For government at every level and sister and brother citizens to labor mightily to heal and restore the countless numbers in our land devastated by nature’s violence, we

pray...

6.  For husbands and wives: may they deepen their love for one another; and, for children and parents: may they grow in love and in their understanding of one another, we pray...

7.  For couples whose marriages are in jeopardy; for parents who sorrow for deceased children and for miscarriages; for children of broken and troubled families and who suffer abuse; for the divorced and widowed: may we touch them with our love, we

pray...

8.  For the safety of our service men and women far from home and in harm’s way, and all our First Responders, and emergency and medical personnel; and, for the seriously ill among our family members and friends to be gifted with love and the healing touch of our God, (especially _________________,) we pray...

9.  For                          , (and) all our beloved dead: may they rest forever in our God’s loving embrace and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God and Father of all, protect and safeguard our families. May we have love which binds us together and makes us perfect.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
