The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: Trusting that the God of hope and consolation hears the prayers of His people gathered in praise and thanksgiving, we raise up these petitions to the throne of the Most High.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That the Church, the people of God, we who believe in the resurrection of the dead, may work for the blessed dignity of all God’s children who have been promised such glory, we pray. . .

2.  That those who guide national and world affairs may labor ceaselessly to bring an end to war, in Ukraine and wherever else war is raging, and to create a new birth of peace, we pray. . .

3.  That all elected or re-elected to political office this coming week may serve---with malice towards none, with charity for all, and with an unshakeable commitment to the common good, we pray. . .

4.  That our nation, in reverence and gratitude, may always honor, affirm, and support its veterans in all their needs, we pray. . .

5.  That prisoners of conscience everywhere, especially in Iran and China, may know by the words and deeds of their sister and brother human beings that they are never forgotten, we pray. . .

6.  That those who have given themselves to each other in the covenant of marriage may flourish in their commitment to mutual love, we pray. . .

7.  That our service men and women in harm’s way and our First Responders may be kept safe; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with the comfort of loved ones and the healing touch of our God, (especially _____________,) we pray. . .

8.  That the sorrowing may find their hope in Easter’s promise; and, the deceased veterans of our community and of our personal families, and all our beloved dead come to the fullness of life and the everlasting embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray. . .

CELEBRANT: God of mercy and compassion, you give us everlasting encouragement and good hope. Listen to the prayer of the people who so much desire to follow the Way of your Son in love.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
