Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

 THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To the one God and Father, who created us all, let us pray in the name of Jesus, our Messiah and Teacher.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That our Pope and our Bishops, our pastors and priests, our deacons and religious, may be freed from thoughts of rank, title, or honor, and humble themselves to be servants after the example of the Master, we pray...

2.  That the priests who minister to our community may be gifted with strength from God and loving support from those they serve, and that there may be an increase in vocations to the priesthood and the religious life for the sake of the harvest, we pray...

3.  That hearts may be transformed so that here may be an end to the web of war and violence throughout the world, especially in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan, we pray...

4.  That relief trucks entering Gaza may do so safely, and the hostages held by Hamas returned unharmed to loved ones soon and very soon, we pray...

5.  That all who govern and whom we elect to govern may do so with integrity, faithfully carrying out their offices with honesty and dignity, we pray...

6.  That those who have turned from the Church because of scandals may not let the infidelity of the few blind them to the integrity and holiness of the many, we pray...

7.  That our service men and women and our First Responders may know no harm; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends be gifted with the comfort of love and the healing touch of our God, (especially _____________), we pray...

8.  That Easter’s glorious promise may comfort the mourning; and,

____________, (and) all our beloved dead, who served the living and true God, come to the forever embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Gentle God, your Word is at work in all who believe.  Strengthen us in our living of that Word and listen to our prayers which we make in the name of Jesus, your Son, who is Lord forever and ever.  Amen.
