Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

THIRTIETH  SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Mindful that the prayers of the lowly pierce the clouds, in our need we humbly turn to our God.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!

1.  For the Church, and especially her leaders: may shepherds and faithful humble themselves in and through their service of the Gospel of compassion, we pray...

2.  For wagers of war to become makers of peace, and ways found soon and very soon to end armed conflict wherever it rages, especially in the land of Ukraine, we pray...

3.  For people of political and economic power in every nation: may they not ignore the cries of the oppressed but rather come generously to the aid of the destitute and the defenseless, the homeless and the hungry, we pray...

4.  For a caring government and a concerned citizenry to restore all in Florida and Puerto Rico devastated by hurricane, we pray...

5. For those who labor in mission areas throughout the world for the sake of the harvest: may they be strengthened in their noble ministries by the prayerful and generous support of the community of faith, we pray...

6.  For those searching for, or who feel beyond, God’s mercy: may they find their hope in the tax collector’s words and the loving embrace of our community, we pray...

7.  For the safety of our service men and women in harm’s way, and our First Responders; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with the comfort of loved ones and the healing power of our God, (especially ______________), we pray...

8.  For the sorrowing to be lifted up in heart and spirit by Easter’s glorious hope; and, for _______________,  (and) all our beloved dead to receive the crown of righteousness and be gathered in God’s house forever, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of gentleness and compassion, in your boundless mercy and love, listen to the prayer of your people raised up to you from humble hearts.  Help us, always and everywhere, to acknowledge our total dependence upon you who judge justly and affirm the right.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
