Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

 TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: As servants who put the needs of others before their own, let us confidently approach the Throne of Grace, praying mercy and favor, in the name of Jesus, for all in need.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That all God’s people, especially those in positions of authority, may imitate the example of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve, we pray...

2.  That hearts may be transformed so that the fires of terrorism may be quenched, and the trumpets of war silenced, we pray...

3.  That those who guide peoples and nations, especially the leaders of these United States, may seek the common good according to the wisdom that comes from God, to whom they must one day render an account, we pray...

4.  That healing, and hope may fall gently upon all in our land whose lives have been devastated by nature’s fury, we pray...

5.  That a selfless concern for the common good may motivate those, who are hesitant to do so, to take the anti-covid vaccines, and for an ever-speedier distribution of those vaccines to the poor of the world, we pray...

6.  That there may be an increase of vocations to the priesthood and the religious life for the sake of the believing community, we pray...

7.  That our service men and women and our First Responders may be kept from harm; and the seriously ill in our community of Faith and among our family members and friends gifted with compassion and the healing touch of our God, (especially _______,) we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in Easter hope; and _____________, (and) all our beloved dead come to eternal rest in the everlasting embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of mercy, you call us to live as your Son lived, in service to others.  Listen to our prayer which we raise up to you through Jesus the Christ, who is our great High Priest and Lord, for ever and ever. Amen.
