Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: The young man ran up to Jesus, knelt down, and brought his need before the Lord.  We now present to our God the needs of the world and of the community of faith.

READER: Today’s response is: “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For those who serve God’s people in leadership: may they always prefer God’s wisdom to wealth, honor, and rank, we pray...

2.  For the transformation of the hearts of our national leaders: may those hearts be opened to wisdom from on high and to collaborating, whatever the issue, for the sake of the common good, we pray...

3.  For the peace of Jerusalem to flow as a gentle river over all the nations, but especially the suffering people of Afghanistan, we pray...

4.  For a selfless concern for the common good to move those, who are hesitant to do so, to take the anti-covid vaccines, we pray...

5.  For those who migrate to our shores: may they experience respect and reverence for their God-given dignity, especially from immigration authorities, we pray...

6.  For those who proclaim the Word in this assembly: may they be a source of blessing for us as they share the living and effective Word of God, we pray...

7.  For the gift of safety for our service men and women, and all our emergency personnel; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ____________,) we pray...

8.  For the consolation of Easter’s hope for those among us mourning loved ones; and, for ____________, (and) all our beloved dead: may they come to eternal rest in the everlasting embrace of God’s love, we pray...

CELEBRANT: O God, be with us as our refuge and strength. Guide us along the path of your wisdom that we may humbly and lovingly open pathways for your Kingdom to come among us.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
