General Intercessions

Twenty Sixth Sunday of Ordered Time

September 29, 2024

Presider: As we prepare to give thanks for the Wisdom and accompaniment the Lord gives us, let us bring to our Father the concerns and sufferings of the world.

Deacon/ Lector/ Cantor: Please respond: “Lord, hear our prayer.”

1. That the teaching and example of Pope Francis, Bishop _______, clergy, and religious focus on encouraging the faithful to live the gospel in their lives in the world, we pray...

2. That the faithful accept that God’s will is that all creation flourish and that we work to achieve God’s will, we pray...

3. That the faithful include all persons, despite discrimination by reason of race, gender, creed, national origin, or political party. May we celebrate others, recognizing that each person is a unique creation of God, we pray...

4. That the faithful of the Church actively remedy poverty for those who lack nourishing food, affordable housing, effective education, or access to health care wherever in the world such poverties exist, we pray...

5. That those who suffer from physical and/or mental illness be blessed by supportive visitors and the by skill of professional healers, we pray...

6. That persons suffering from abuse may have the courage to seek help to restructure their lives in freedom and dignity. That abusers realize the destruction they cause and repent or are exposed to public scrutiny, we pray...

7. That those who have died this past week (list those here) and those who pass through the portal of death this coming week may be comforted on their journey by absolution, anointing, the Apostolic Pardon, and viaticum, we pray...

8. Let us take a moment to add our personal intentions: (pause) Let us place these intentions on the altar with our gifts to the community so they might be contained in the Mystical Body of the Lord we receive, we pray...

Presider: Gracious Father, you sent your Son to become human so that we might learn from him how to love one another and all creation. Help us serve others with respect, kindness and merciful love. May whoever abuses others by bullying, sexual aggression, economic destruction, or social scapegoating be corrected in their sin. Give us, Lord, the courage and wisdom to protect those in danger. We ask this of you in the name of your Son who is Lord now and forever.

Response: Amen.
