Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To the God, whom no human being has seen or can see, let us pray on behalf of all in need---in whom we do see the living God.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That God’s holy people, one and all, may embrace lives that reflect the humility of the Master and the service of the poor, we pray. . .

2.  That relief from the endless cycle of violence and war may soon come to suffering peoples everywhere, especially in Ukraine, we pray. . .

3.  That those who lead governments may not just speak nice-sounding words but, far more, labor mightily to shrink the great divide that exists between the rich and the poor, the hungry and the well-fed, we pray. . .

4.  That all of humanity and, especially, the peoples of the developed world may commit to a profound caring for the planet which is home to all, we pray. . .

5.  That those seeking faith may learn, from our witness, the ways of justice, which are essential to the confession of faith, we pray. . .

6.  That each of us may embrace a life of stewardship, sharing our gifts of time, talent, and treasure for the sake of healing hurts and of building up the Body of the Christ, we pray. . .

7.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be blessed with loving caregivers and the healing touch of our God, (especially ____________,) we pray. . .

8.  That Easter’s glorious hope may wrap the hearts of those mourning loved ones; and, _____________, (and) all our beloved dead rest in the forever embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray. . .

CELEBRANT: God of justice and mercy, listen to the prayer of your people gathered to hear your challenging words.  Help us always to be attentive to the needs of the hurting, and mold us ever more into the image of Christ Jesus, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
