Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

 TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Mindful that we do not live for ourselves or die for ourselves, let us, with unselfish hearts, turn to our God, praying peace and reconciliation to fill our weary world.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For the Church, the community of sinners and saints: may shepherds and faithful model compassion, peace, and forgiveness for a world far too immersed in vengeance and anger, we pray...

2. For the leaders of the nations to come together with renewed dedication to eliminate the waging of war in Ukraine and Sudan, and for the victims of those wars to seek not vengeance but reconciliation and healing, we pray...

3.  For our God’s abundant blessing upon the continuing relief efforts in Maui and our southeastern States, we pray...

4.  For all students, teachers, and administrators, embarking upon a new academic year, to welcome its challenges and to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and reverence for human dignity, we pray...

5. For this assembly: may we bear witness to God’s unconditional love, by not living for ourselves only but as servants of God and of each other, forgiving one another from the heart, we pray...

6.  For the safety of our service men and women in harm’s way, and of first responders, essential workers, and others who protect our communities with their lives, we pray...

7.  For the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ______________,) we pray...

8.  For Easter healing and hope for all who mourn; and, for _____________, (and) all our beloved dead: may they be gathered home to the everlasting embrace of God’s love, we pray...

CELEBRANT: God of forgiveness and peace, listen to the prayer of your people.  Where there is hatred, inspire us to sow love.  Where there is anger, help us to pardon.  Form us in the image of your Son, the Prince of Peace, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
