Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

 TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To the Lord our God, who is gracious and merciful and just, let us pray in the name of Jesus, God’s holy servant.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That all who confess with their lips Jesus as Messiah may follow Him in the ways of sacrifice and love, we pray...

2.  That God may transform hearts so that our world may be delivered from its slavery to war, terror, and violence; and peoples in conflict freed to pursue reconciliation and peace, we pray...

3.  That restoration and new life, through the efforts of government and the hearts and hands of sister and brother citizens, may be gifted upon all devastated by nature’s hurricane and fire wrath, we pray...

4.  That hope and healing may wrap the hearts of those who continue to be afflicted physically, emotionally, and spiritually by the attacks of 9/11, and by the attack at the Kabul airport, we pray...

5.  That students, teachers, and administrators, beginning a new academic year, may grow in wisdom and grace before God, and in every school stay safe from the corona virus, we pray...

6.  That our service men and women and all emergency personnel may also be blessed with safety; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with compassionate love and the healing touch of our God, (especially ______________,) we pray...

7.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and, all who have lost their lives to terrorism________________, (and) all our beloved dead come to rest eternally in the embrace of God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

(PAUSE)

That God may receive with a special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Loving God, you know the deepest longings of our hearts.  Guide us along the path of holiness that we may more and more come to embrace the Way of Jesus the Christ, through whom we make our prayer and who is Lord forever and ever.
