Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To the God who seeks out what is lost and rejoices over its return, we offer our prayers for a Church and a world so much in need.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For God’s people, shepherds and faithful, to be ministers of reconciliation to all who are alienated, within or from the church, assuring them of a joyful welcome and providing a model for the world of humility in human relationships, we pray...

2.  For a speedy end to the trumpets of war wherever they are sounding and to the madness of terrorism, and for the peace of Jerusalem to fall soon and very soon upon a war-weary planet, we pray...

3.  For the world community to rush to the aid of Pakistan, overwhelmed by massive flooding, and to other lands touched by nature’s fury and the destructive effects of climate change, we pray...

4.  For parish religious educators as they ready themselves for their so important ministry: may they grow in knowing and be blessed in teaching our faith and the Church’s heritage of compassion, reconciliation, and social justice, and for the young people to whom they will minister the Word, we pray...

5.  For forgiveness and reconciliation to bind together parents and children separated by disagreement and misunderstanding, and for all grandparents to rejoice in the love of their families, we pray...

6.  For the safety of service men and women and all first responders in harm’s way; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with the comfort of loved ones and the healing touch of our God, (especially __________, we pray...

7. For God’s Easter consolation and peace for all mourning loved ones, especially loved ones lost to terror on that 9/11 day twenty-one years ago: and, for the victims of those

terror attacks __________, (and) all our beloved dead to be gathered home to the everlasting embrace of God’s love, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

(PAUSE)

For those intentions, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Father in heaven, whose love and forgiveness are boundless, listen to the prayer of your people.  Remain with us as our refuge, our strength, our hope.  We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, who is Lord forever and ever.
