Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Let us pray in the name of the Jesus who has promised his presence where two or three gather in his holy name.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For the church, the people of God, shepherds and faithful: may we practice in our own community life the commandment of love and the reconciliation that we preach to others, we pray...

2.  For forgiveness to replace hatred and mercy to replace vengeance among all peoples, and for an end to the trumpets of war, especially in Ukraine and Sudan, where the trumpets are sounding loudly, we pray...

3.  For this week’s remembrance of the September 11 tragedy to move us to work ever harder for peace in our families and our various communities, we pray...  

4.  For a compassionate government and compassionate sister and brother citizens to bring hope out of desperation by responding generously to the needs of the so many whose lives have been upended by the fury of nature’s winds and rains or by fire, we pray...

5.  For those who have sinned against us, and for those who feel abandoned by the Church: may we never cease trying to regain and restore them to a place at the table, we pray...

6.  For the blessing of safety for our service men and women and, throughout the land, for our firefighters, police officers, emergency service personnel, and all first responders and essential workers, we pray...

7.  For the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ______________,) we pray...

8.  For Easter’s hope for all who mourn, in particular for loved ones lost in the 9/11 attacks; and, for all whose lives were taken from them on that 9/11day ______________, and all our beloved dead: may they come to the everlasting embrace of God’s life and love, we pray... 

CELEBRANT: God of reconciling love, listen to the prayers of your faithful people.  Draw us ever closer to you and to one another.  Move us to serve our neighbors with love and compassion.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
