Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Let us offer our prayer to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who is close to us whenever we call upon Him.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  For those charged with handing on the tradition of the church, especially Francis, our pope, Joseph, our bishop, and their brother bishops: may they cherish---unity in essentials, diversity in nonessentials, and do so with charity for all, we pray...

2.  For the leaders of the nations and the makers of terror: may God purify their inmost hearts and re-direct their thoughts to peace, we pray...

3.  For the world community to come together to bind up the so many wounds of the Haitian people, ravaged by earthquake and untold brutal ills, we pray...

4.  For all of us who travel this planet together to take ever more to heart the divine summons to us to be humble and good stewards of creation, the wonderful handiwork our God has entrusted to our care, we pray...

5. For the unvaccinated in our land to embrace, for the sake of all, the great gift the anti-covid vaccines are, and for the unvaccinated poor of the world, by the increasingly speedy and generous distribution of those vaccines, to find relief from the pandemic, we pray...

6.  For this Eucharistic assembly: may we be not only hearers but also doers of the Word whose humility, compassion, and holiness of life draw our sister and brother human beings to God’s covenant of love, we pray...

7.  For the safety of our service men and women and our First Responders; and, for the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends to be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially _________________), we pray...

8.  For the sorrowing to be consoled by Easter’s promise of life; and, for _________________ (and) all our beloved dead to come to eternal rest in our God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Loving God, in whom there is no alteration or shadow of change, be close to us as we call upon you. Help us---to trust in your love, to walk in your presence, to act on your word.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
