Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: To whom shall we go for assistance in our need, and the need of neighbor near and far? To the Lord our God!

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That Shepherds and Faithful may reject the values that contradict the gospel and choose always and everywhere to serve the Lord’s values of humility, fidelity, and compassionate love, we pray...

2.  That God may deliver our world from its slavery to war, terror, and violence, and transform hearts everywhere to pursue reconciliation and peace, especially where there is no peace, we pray...

3.  That those whose faith is tested by scandal or evil of any kind may not go away but rather go to the Christ who has the words of eternal life, and be lifted up in heart and spirit by the great goodness of so many who bear his holy name, we pray...

4.  That the unvaccinated in our land may embrace, for the sake of all, the great gift the anti-covid vaccines are, and the unvaccinated poor of the world, by the increasingly speedy and generous distribution of those vaccines, find relief from the pandemic, we pray...

5. That the wives and husbands of our community may grow in love and be living signs of Christ’s love for the Church, we pray...

6.  That there may be an increase of vocations to the priesthood so that no community wants for Eucharist; and, the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially ________), we pray…

7.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and __________, (and) all our beloved dead, who ate the bread of life with us, come to rest eternally in our God’s love and peace, we pray...

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions –

(PAUSE)

That God may receive with a special kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Lord God, you are the giver of every good gift.  Listen to the prayer of your servants, gathered to offer you praise and glory in the name of Jesus, your Son, who alone has the words of eternal life.  Through him we make our prayer, for he is Lord forever and ever.
