Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: Let us now lift up our prayer---asking--seeking--knocking at the door of the God who is the Giver of every good gift.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That the Church, which daily prays for the coming of God’s kingdom, may work tirelessly to open pathways for that kingdom’s justice to be established among us, we

pray...

2.  That nations at war, in particular Ukraine and Russia, and all who are bent on violence may lay down weapons of destruction and move toward forgiveness and peace, we pray...

3.  That countries gifted with abundance may generously share with poorer nations who have a right to daily bread, we pray...

4.  That those who labor as mediators and negotiators may achieve, as the fruit of their efforts, reconciliation and healing, we pray...

5.  That all whose prayer lives have become dull may see in Abraham’s persistence and the psalmist’s words a spark to begin prayer anew, we pray...

6.  That we Americans may learn ever more how to reverence one another and especially our service men and women and our first responders, we pray...

7.  That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with the comfort of loved ones and the healing touch of our God, (especiall____________,) we pray...

8.  That the sorrowing may be lifted up in hope by Easter’s promise; and, ____________, (and) all our beloved dead come to rest in the forever embrace of our God’s love and peace, we pray...

CELEBRANT: Gracious God, thy kingdom come! Thy will be done!  Listen to the prayers we raise up to you through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
