Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CELEBRANT: St. Paul reminds us to love our neighbors as ourselves. In the spirit of that love, let us pray for those in need.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  Let us pray for the Church … for believers to prepare the way for Jesus’ second coming, neither judging those who reject the message nor condemning those who oppose it … for Christians gathered in prayer throughout the world on this day … for believers who long for peace, work for justice, and answer the call to serve others … we pray...

2.  Let us pray for our country … for all who call the United States their home … for citizens who have lived here all their lives … for justice and compassion for immigrants, and refugees seeking asylum … for those who share their blessings with others … we pray...

3.  Let us pray for those who lead the nations, especially the leaders of these United

States … for their committing themselves to abandoning war and violence in all its forms … for their resolving to secure peace for all peoples, especially the war-ravaged of Ukraine … we pray...

4.  Let us pray for care for the beauty of our land … for the safety of travelers … for

summer rest and recreation that energizes us for a new day … we pray...

5.  Let us pray for those who are poor and without resources … for those who are

lonely … for those anxiously awaiting the results of medical tests … we pray...

6.  Let us pray for safety for police, firefighters, and other first responders … for service

men and women in harm’s way … for vocations in abundance to the priesthood and the

religious life … we pray...

7.  Let us pray for comfort and healing for the seriously ill, (especially _____________,) … for all who have asked for our prayers … for those we love, those for whom we have promised to pray, and those for whom we are especially concerned … we pray...

8.  Let us pray for eternal life for ______________, (and) all our beloved dead ... for those who have died with no one to pray for them … and for Easter’s consolation for all who are grieving the loss of a loved one … we pray...

CELEBRANT:  Good and gracious God, attend to the prayers of your people gathered to listen to the voice of your Son.  May our journey with Christ to Jerusalem bring us one day into the heavenly Jerusalem.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
