Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ. These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.
FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
CELEBRANT: Because God has been glorified in Jesus, let us, in His holy name, pray now with confidence to the One who has the power to make all things new.
READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”
1. That the people of God, shepherds and faithful, may give witness, in word and work, to the portrait of self-sacrificing love painted in today’s Gospel, we pray...
2. That all who live with the anguish and fear of war, especially in Ukraine, and our service men and women, may soon know a Sabbath of healing and a springtime of peace, we pray...
3. That the leaders of the nations may newly resolve to put aside any undue national interest and labor without ceasing to find, before it is too late, reasonable and just solutions to the issues that divide them, we pray...
4. That the compassion of sister and brother human beings may wipe away every tear and give new hope to any and all ravaged by natural or man-made disasters, we pray...
5. That those appointed to the ministry of leadership in every local church may reveal, to the ones they serve, the face of the God of great kindness Who dwells among them, we pray...
6. That we of this community may be known as disciples of Jesus by our love, one for another, we pray...
7. That the seriously ill in our community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with the consolation of love and the healing touch of our God, (especially _____________), we pray...
8. That those among us mourning loved ones may be lifted up in heart and spirit by Easter’s promise of life; and, (and) all our parishioners, family members, and friends who have been called to the new and eternal Jerusalem rejoice forever with our God in that holy city where death is no more, we pray...
CELEBRANT:
God of love and mercy, your people cry out to you in their great need.
Strengthen us to comfort all who suffer and sorrow. Deepen our love for you and
for one another, and graciously grant these our prayers which we make through
Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord, forever and ever. |
