The Author

Each week we are posting General Intercessions for the upcoming Sunday liturgies by Msgr. Joseph Masiello, retired pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Westfield, NJ.  These intercessions are based on the assigned scriptures, the liturgical season and current events.

CELEBRANT: In the name of Jesus, who is coming in glory, let us make our petitions known to our all-wise and holy God.

READER: Please respond, “LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER!”

1.  That we, God’s holy people, who believe in the resurrection of the body, may nurture the human dignity of all destined for such glory, we pray. . .

2.  That hearts may be transformed by the wisdom of God so that soon there may be the dawning of a new peace and justice for all the peoples of the earth, we pray. . .

3.  That those who govern and whom we have elected to govern, from the highest office in the land to the most local, may humbly seek wisdom from on high, and fulfill their weighty responsibilities with integrity, with zeal for the common good and the common good alone, and with malice towards none and charity for all, we pray. . .

4.  That we may reverence our veterans, and the men and women currently serving in our nation’s military, and justly provide for the needs of all, we pray. . .

5.  That our service women and men, our First Responders, and our essential workers caring for those struck down by the coronavirus or fighting the wildfires may be covered in safety, we pray. . .

6.  That the seriously ill in our parish community and among our family members and friends may be gifted with love’s comfort and the healing touch of our God, (especially, ____________________,) we pray. . .

7.  That Easter’s glorious promise may be the hope of those among us in mourning; and, our deceased veterans, and all our beloved dead come to the everlasting embrace of God’s peace and love, we pray. . .

8.  We pause to express, in the silence of our hearts, our personal intentions -

That God may receive with kindness those unspoken concerns, we pray. . .

CELEBRANT: God of life and mercy, you call upon all of us to prepare for your holy coming.  Grant us what we need to be ready.  In your compassion, lead us along the pathway of hope, and help us to give that precious gift to the hurting.  This we pray through Christ our Lord.
